The Laser Focus of Geordy Chavez

A short conversation with Geordy Chavez makes it very clear that for him, soccer is life.  Chavez recently traveled with Soccer Scouting Pros’ Fan Select Team to train and play in Rome, Italy, and will be traveling again to Munich, Germany in November for scouting opportunities.  

When asked to share a bit about himself, his response was that his main focus is always soccer.  However, Chavez is also a student at East Los Angeles College, and works to support himself and his passion for soccer. “You know, I’m going to Munich in November, so I gotta save up,” he laughs.  

Chavez has been playing soccer since he was three years old, and played both club soccer around his hometown of L.A. and varsity soccer at Alhambra HS.  He describes himself as a humble player, but he also knows that he has the skill and potential to play alongside the top teams in Europe. This desire to compete at a higher level motivated him to take advantage of the opportunity to play in Rome this past May.  

His experience as a member of the Fan Select team in Rome was a real turning point in his pursuit of his dream to play professional soccer.  The exposure to an entirely different style of play improved his game considerably. “I'm used to American/Latino coaches in the U.S,” says Chavez, “but when Coach Massi from Italy took over and began working with us, on day one my whole perspective of the game changed.”  He attributes this change of perspective to the Italian style of play, tactics, and positioning and feels that the coaching techniques made him a more aggressive player and enhanced his leadership abilities on the field.

With this game-changing experience under his belt, Chavez is ready to give all it takes to realize his dream to play professionally.  His goal is to play at the top with the very best players in the world.  

“Coach Mario and Soccer Scouting Pros are helping me out a lot!” continues Chavez. “They're opening doors for me. They're doing their part in helping me make my dream come true and now I gotta do mine.” 

Judging by Chavez’ laser focus and healthy confidence as a player, it certainly seems like he is doing his part and more to be the best he can be.  “If you give up,” he says, “it means you never really wanted it.”
